Healing Huskies, Helping Humanity
Where animals and communities come together in a safe, shelter environment.

Healing Huskies, Helping Humanity – an NPC serving the Western Cape. Not only do we assist huskies and other Northern breeds in need, but we also wish to educate and assist humans too. Our shelter will, when formally opened, invite children and adults from all walks of life to join us at educational talks regarding the needs and care of companion animals (cats, dogs, horses, donkeys and birds) and huskies in particular. We will also welcome crafters and offer various crafting classes and materials to the local community – these can then be sold with a small percentage going to the Shelter for fundraising. Many of these activities will be started immediately.

At our facility people who are unable to leave an untenable situation, whether it be abusive, financial or unsafe, because they do not wish to risk abandoning their companion animals will be welcome to seek refuge for up to a week, which enables them to look for new accommodation knowing their beloved pets are safe. The pets may board for longer if the owner needs time. This location will not be made public.

We also hope to offer the same small, but well-appointed, one-bedroom units to terminally and critically ill children or to the elderly in retirement/old age homes, who can no longer keep their own pets but wish to stay for up to 2 nights and connect, play with and get comfort from one of the dogs that is suitable for this very important job. Both the animal and the person can benefit from this interaction.

This is how the name came about. The “healing huskies” help the
humans they meet, and the huskies are, in turn, “healed”.
